Wizards! It's a card game that is basically similar to Magic, but has some Yu-Gi-Oh inspired elements to it. Instead of having 5 colors that each do different things, there are elements instead. I haven't decided if it uses mana like MtG, or if it uses something else for summoning in the monsters. As Wizards will be showing up again later in the comic, I've got to think about it a bit. You guys can always let me know what you think, too! If I made an actual Wizards card game, how do you think it would work?

You could continue the theme and steal WoW's resource system. Any card in the game can be turned face down as a resource to play cards, so you have to choose carefully what you used to power your cards in case you something you needed.

OMG Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh! all in one! Niiice!

I'm guessing that the trying to control deck power via rarity comes from Yu-gi-oh because as I understand it a magic mythic rare is comparable to a common just more Timmyish or Johnnyish or more complex.
Attempting to control deck power via card rarity doesn't work because of card reselling. If the kid with the most money almost always wins then kids stop playing (at least in tournaments). Now if it is harder to play life or death I can see wizards of the coast doing something like this. So either Alexis doesn't understand the downsides to playing life or death or this game has balance issues.

@Miiohau: It's very difficult to play a life or death deck. It's equivalent to playing a rainbow deck in Magic the Gathering. If all of the cards come out in exactly the right order, they play really well. If not... it can be really hard. It's not so much that Alexis doesn't understand the downsides. It's more that Alexis has never had a chance to play against or with either kind of deck. She knows what they can do, but she's never actually utilized the tactic. She actually has a really good deck that she uses that has never lost any matches she's used it in. We'll see it in the next chapter, and it doesn't utilize either life or death stuff.

I'll be honest and say that this was mostly inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh, though, so there probably are a lot of balance issues that Yu-Gi-Oh has that are in Wizards.

Fun fact: did you know, in the original Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, the name for the card game was first called "Magic & Wizards". Was the name of your game inspired by that?

@Hippocampus: It was, actually =D
